Holiday Mixed Media Show & Christmas Party!

This December, Artemis Gallery is hosting a Holiday Mixed Media Show on First Friday featuring a unique selection of works for the discerning holiday shopper.  This year we are providing gifts with a touch of vintage and burlesque!

Come to the Holiday Mixed Media Show and take a stroll back to the Roaring ‘20s – ‘40s!  Some of Richmond’s local burlesque bombshells will be there to provide entertainment and atmosphere dressed as cigarette girls while you pick out the perfect gift to spice up your holidays!

This Season we are providing a wide selection of accessories such as brooches, hair pins, fascinators, hand made hats, jewelry and jewelry boxes, and more!  We will have a reception for these works on First Friday December 3rd and our End of the Year Christmas Party on Friday December 17th.  Don’t miss out on the opportunity to pick out a gift you won’t find anywhere else but Artemis Gallery!

Salon des Refuses this November!

In the art world, juries and galleries sometimes reject visionary artists based entirely on a jumble of preestablished standards and politics. On the other hand, here at Artemis Gallery we hold adamantly to our belief that no artist can rightfully or accurately judged by any jargon or preset criteria, and likewise in November 2010 we will be presenting the Richmond public with our show … the Salon des Refuses.

Following in the footsteps of such artists as Manet, Cezanne, and Monet who in the late 1800s, after being refused admittance to the politically oriented Academies Francais, opted instead to establish their own unofficial presentation of “reject art”.  Artemis Gallery is providing a unique opportunity for both local and visiting artists to display their work, which may have been rejected from previous art exhibits.

At our Salon des Refuses, we plan to deliver not only the opportunity for magnificent artists to display their pieces, but also for the general public to engage in the show, meeting the artists face to face and learning the history and creation process of each piece.

Come join us in our celebration of art for art’s sake!  This year we will also be featuring live saxophone along with guitar music as well as a live painting demonstration by local artist Cynthia Erdahl.

Call for Artists! Outdoor Interactive Painting

This October, Artemis Gallery is looking for artists interested in contributing to an outdoor interactive wall painting.  We will have a large scale sheet of canvas provided which will allow up to four artists to create their own works of whatever they like!  The paintings will be displayed on the outdoor side wall of Artemis Gallery for the month of October for everyone to see!

Anyone who is interested in applying must submit a completed 8″ x 10″ full color sketch by Monday September 27th to holly.sullivn@gmail.com.  After reviewing all submissions, we will contact the artists we decide to select by the 29th.  Those artists who are selected will come to the gallery on our First Friday opening night (Oct 1st) to paint their selected piece as a part of the opening!
